“Deutsche” B flat trumpet, 4 rotary valves
Special trumpet / universal trumpet for lower passages and very big, compact sound. All the advantages of the “Deutsche” B flat trumpet, quart valve, extra quint crook.
Annotation:
The romantic and modern orchestra literature occasionally requires a low trumpet. During the romantic period, this low trumpet (usually in F pitch) was the standard instrument while the B flat trumpet, which came into fashion at that time, was referred to as high trumpet (which today usually refers to Piccolo trumpets). For this reason, pieces by Richard Strauss, for example, contain notes which cannot be played on today’s usual instruments. This applies for certain other composers as well. The 4 valve B flat trumpet is a convenient solution for this. Thanks to the quint crook, very high bass trumpet passages, like those demanded by Henze, are well playable. In addition, it is of course suitable as a “normal” B flat trumpet with a very mighty sound as well.
