During the late period of the naturaltrumpet there has been rised the wish for a chromatial playable trumpet.There have been different trials, like soprano-trombone, English slide trumpet and trials with holes and keys added to the naturaltrumpet. The invention of Anton Weidinger (1766-1852), to add to a natural trumpet a system of several keys (ca.1800), allowed to play melodies in the lower range.

The  Haydn- and the Hummel-concerto has been composed to this type of instrument.
